Virus epstein-barr
Un virus grande, ubicuo y normalmente benigno del tipo herpes con ADN y cápside. Algunas veces está involucrado en mononucleosis y al menos dos tipos de linfoma. Recientemente se lo ha relacionado con el cuadro sintomático llamado síndrome de fatiga crónica (como lo ha sido con el CMV) y puede producir muchos síntomas mal definidos (pero subjetivamente dolorosos), que incluyen fatiga, fiebre de origen desconocido (FOD, ¡me encantan estos acrónimos!) y labilidad emocional. La inmunosupresión, por cualquier causa que sea, permite que se presente este síndrome. Muchas personas dentro y fuera del campo de la medicina han terminado considerándolo como otra forma de sensibilidad química múltiple (SQM, obviamente) y una secuela del uso médico excesivo de antiinflamatorios inmunosupresores.
