Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk-rock band based in Moscow. The band was founded in August 2011 and stages politically provocative performances about Russian political life.

On August 17, 2012, the three members of the band were found guilty of "hooliganism driven by religious hatred" (Article 213.2 of the Criminal Code) and each sentenced to two years in prison from the time of their initial detention.
