lingva franka
Lingva franka je jezik koji se u velikoj koristi izvan zemlje u kojoj je maternji jezik, najpre u svrhu internacionalne komunikacije (nekad je i pitanje prestiža ili elitizma). Danas je engleski jezik dominantan kao lingva franka, dok su kroz istoriju taj status imali francuski, nemački, persijski i drugi jezici, u zavisnosti od političkih uslova datog vremena.
