Uobičajena upotreba pojma komunikacije se zasniva na modelu prenosa u kojem "pošiljalac" "prenosi" "poruku" "primaocu" - formula koja redukuje značenje na "sadržaj" (tretirajući ga kao paket koji se dostavlja) i samim tim podstiče namerne zablude. Ovo je takođe osnova dobro moznatog modela komunikacije Šenona i Vejvera koji ne uzima u obzir značaj društvenog konteksta.
