Prepisujući virus kopira svoj kod preko domaćinovih podataka, time uništavajući originalni program. Dezinfekcija je moguća, mada se fajl ne može povratiti. Obično je neophodno obrisati originalni dokument i zameniti ga čistom kopijom.
