POkret u slikarstvu koji je doživio procvat sredinom i u kasnom 19.stoljeću u Francuskoj.Karakterizira ga interes slikara za zabilježavanjem vizualnih aspekata stvari pod različitim uvjetima atmosfere i osvjetljenja, gesturalna upotreba medija i liberalna upotreba svjetla i kontrasta boja. Ključne osobe impresionizma su Camille Pisarro, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet i Pierre Renoir.
